The Assistant News Director plans, develops story angles with reporters, publishes, promotes and analyzes our journalism and other content offerings across all digital, social and broadcast platforms. This position, which reports to the News Director, is also responsible for ensuring our content is relevant, shareable, and optimized for user experience online and broadcast RESPONSIBILITIES: • Collaborate across the newsroom to work with reporters to create, edit and publish relevant, timely and interesting content experiences • Play a leading role in NPG of Idaho's voice and presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social platforms • Provide coverage of breaking news and live events across our platforms • Collaborate across the newsroom to identify information that would benefit our viewers and readers • Lead weekend coverage across all platforms • Back up produce for broadcast when needed Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Include but not limited to: • Strong journalism skills and experience in a newsroom environment • A passion for storytelling and building audience • Experience understanding, communicating and using analytics to guide coverage decisions • Ability to work with journalists on best practices, including reporting, writing and packaging content for specific audiences • Savvy across desktop and mobile • Experience communicating with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others • Strong writing ability, particularly for headlines and summaries • Basic editing knowledge for on line, social and on air • Proven talent for quick, creative thinking with attention to detail • Able to work flexible hours including early mornings, days, nights and weekends as needed • Ability train others on digital/broadcast practices • Must have good communication, customer service and problem-solving skills If you want to be part of a dynamic newsroom that thrives on breaking news and creating compelling content every day, we want to see your work.
